Finished Paper

I recently finished my 10-15 pages research paper, I have to say it was a great learning experience. I was shocked in a way to find out some facts that i never knew or never even considered. I wrote my paper on the success of Indian casinos and the support this success gives to the people on the reservations. The amount of jobs it offers, and the money that can be provided for families living in poverty. It was a great eye opnener and i will never look at casinos in the same way again. I now know the history and details of operation of the Tulalip Casino in a small way for example. It was a good challenge to find information from credible resources and use good fatcs to support my thesis. Great idea for a final as people get a small idea of the Native American lifestyle, although we will never fully understand.

Movie on Monday

I thought the movie we saw on monday was a great emotional film of the people from reservations speaking of their past's and their experiences in Boarding schools. Although i came in a little bit late, i captured the emotion and seriousness of the people on film. Their inability to speak of the horrible times they witnessed and went through gives a good persepective on what really happened for around 100 years. It is an eye opener for the american kind, to realize that life as an indian was ridiculous compared to the luxury of the white people. It was truley unfair and in a way, genocide. Like the man said in the movie, this was the native american version of Schindler's List or why dont they have a movie like that. It would be powerful to see for all americans. Good information to have about what really happened.

Research

So far the research for my final paper is going well. I am finding a lot of interesting information and facts to use when putting together my paper. I believe this outline that is due wednesday is going to be a huge help. It will allow me to be organized and guide me when writing out the paper. I have never actually taken advantage of an outline before and i think it will be great in helping with around 12 pages. I hope to have about 10-13 main ideas/topics and about 5 details within the topic to fill out a page for each idea. I will be getting started soon so i am not stuck doing it all last minute. Good luck

Artistic Response

I am rather unsure of what to do for the creative response, the book was full of images i created in my head while reading each chapter. I have to do some thinking/research and come up with a creative idea. I am interested in hearing other peoples ideas.

Topic Proposal

Confused on what i should do for a topic regarding a 10-15 page paper.... I want to be interested and entertained and wanna keep writing. 10-15 pages is something you can't do if your bored with a topic. Time for some creative thinking and research.

Indian Presentations

I thought the presentations on the local tribes around washington were interesting. It was good to see the history, traditions, and celebrations of each local tribe. I also found what they did for food and shelter intereesting as some relied on fish and berries, while others did some hunting as well. It was a good project to invest time in

Absolutely true diary of a part time indian

After completing the book i thought it was a well put together piece. It had humor, diversity, challenges, and hope that made me want to read more. He provided pictures to help get the point across which was a great addition. I found it interesting to read more upon when he left the reservation and begin his own chapter in life by going to the white school "Rearden". He was faced with being the only indian besides the mascot to go to the school and he made his way to the top by lying, fighting, and having faith that things would get better. Although he lost multiple loved ones in horrible ways, he kept moving forward when he wanted to hide in a room and go away forever. I would be interested in reading a sequel to see what his life turned out to be and how it got there.
